Things that make me go "hmm."

Happy weekend, everyone! I wanted to start your Saturday off right with this adorable turtle picture. My friend Caroline posted it on my Facebook timeline for my birthday, and I just cannot get enough of it! It looks like it's saying: "GIMME A HUG!"

Now, on to the interesting links I found this week:

  • POTTERMORE IS COMING!
  • Here's yet another reason I’m glad I have the plain Kindle and not a Kindle Fire, Nook or iPad.
  • Speaking of the Kindle, Apple said it was not a "threat" after the Dept. of Justice accused Apple and several publishers of colluding on e-book prices.
  • When I say I'm from California, people automatically think of Hollywood and surfing. Um, no. The Real Rural California photo project is more like it.
  • I found this video about failure quite a while ago and was planning on constructing an entire blog post around it, but that hasn't happened. I wanted to share the video with you anyway, even if I never get around to blogging about it.
  • I want to get all these passport stamps! Every. Single. One.
  • Did you know it's National Ritual Celebration Week? This video provides a great perspective on ritual within the Greek community. (Download the full text here.)
  • Also on the topic of Greek Life, this blog post provides an amazing commentary on the "brand" of fraternities and sororities by comparing our chapters to the Starbucks franchise.
  • My favorite summer Olympian is back!

Also this week, I was pleasantly surprised to find that two of the blogs I read are written by fellow Alpha Delta Pi sisters! One, C'est Christine, is a travel blog I have been reading for months. Yesterday, I just happened to stumble upon one of her old posts, "What Greek Life taught me about traveling," where I learned she is also an ADPi. The other, A Lovely Mist, is a blog I just started reading recently. Kristen, the lovely lady behind that blog, told me she was an ADPi after I posted my big news about becoming a Leadership Consultant on Wednesday. As if that wasn't cool enough by itself, I actually know women from both of their chapters! Neat, right? One of the things I love about blogging is getting to make all these new friends from across the country, but I have to admit, it's even better when you discover they're your sisters! <>

P.S. — Will you be watching Game Change tonight? I checked the book out of the library a few weeks ago but haven't gotten around to reading it yet.

I just checked out C'est Christine's blog. She is right on the money. It really is crazy how far the lessons learned in sorority life transcend!

Just so you know, you convinced me to get a Kindle for my birthday instead of Chacos. I ordered my Kindle Keyboard 3G just a few hours ago!

Woo! So glad to hear it! That's the exact one I have. You. Will. LOVE. It. And I just got a really cool cover for my birthday; Amazon makes some neat-colored covers with built-in reading lights. :)
