Because I already wrote about rereading on this blog (which you can read by clicking the link above), I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on my progress with my 2013 reading resolutions, which are also a product of the Book Chat.
1. Read 53 books.
I'm only on my second book of 2013 right now, but I will get there!
2. Participate in The Book Chat more often!
Score! I've participated in every Book Chat since I made this resolution, though I am ashamed to admit the great majority of them have been late link-ups (including this one). I just hate missing out, though! Some of my favorite topics have included literary pet peeves and the reading resolutions. I also found some great new blogs to follow through the recent Book Chats, especially I Believe In Story (this week's co-host!) and wishin good luck. You can see all the blogs that participate by clicking this week's Book Chat button above!
3. Identify a specific topic for my novel.
I haven't even thought about this one. Good thing I have 325 days left in the year!
4. Read for at least 30 minutes each day.
Hmm ... I was doing pretty well at this until my first formal recruitment visit, and I've been on a colony visit for the last three weeks, which means I'm helping to build a new chapter from the ground up. So, I haven't been making as much time for reading as I'd like to. Fortunately, I am in the midst of snowmaggedon right now, so I think I'll have plenty of time to read this weekend!
Plus, I added two new resolutions last week:
5. Read one magazine per month.
I have read several articles from different magazines on my Next app, but not a complete issue of anything yet.
6. Read a book in Spanish.
My friend mentioned yesterday that she read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in Spanish, which I think would be pretty fun. However, I don't know if I want to jump into something quite that long for my first Spanish book.
So that's it! How are you doing on your reading resolutions? Or other New Year's resolutions? Also, just a quick update, the view from my window looks like this right now ...
Fun fact: Our car is second from the right and has accumulated even more snow since I took this picture. |
You seem to be doing pretty well, so far! It's so hard to read LOTS, or even as much as we'd like to, especially when life gets so busy. My reading has gone significantly down in the last two weeks for this very reason!
ReplyDeleteI love hearing an update on your resolutions. Mine are to read more seires (so far I have read one book from a series), read 50 books (I've read 8), and reread The Time Traveler's Wife (Completed).
ReplyDeleteThe book I read for the challenge The Shadow of the Wind was originally in Spanish. It's long but it's a great book. You should try it.
ReplyDeleteAs for my reading resolutions...I'm doing AWFUL. I have only finished one book. :(
I don't remember any other resolutions and this is why I don't make goals...I just forget them. LOL
Thanks for the shout out! :)
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to re-read The Dark Materials series as well! Ok, that's a lie, since I've only ever read the first one... but I want to read all three haha.
I've been trying to read HP in French - I too was worried about it being too ong but it actually passes by quite easily because I know the story so well - go for it!
ReplyDeleteI've been reading a lot of YF books in very early preparation for the boys' reading in a few years. The Giver was amazing and heart breaking as an adult. Also, did you ever get into Casual Vacancy? I have picked it up 4 times and just can't get into it and I am bummed because I was so looking forward to it!
