Travel Tuesday: Week 9
Hello, and welcome to another edition of Travel Tuesday! Today's suggested topic: What are some great day trips that you've taken? What has been your favorite domestic travel experience? Do you think domestic traveling is really traveling? As always, you are free to write about anything travel-related; don't feel obligated to answer my prompt. And, of course, don't forget to link up below!

It's no secret that I never really cared for my California hometown. I mean, I did move 2,000 miles away for school, and I didn't even apply to any California schools. I just wanted to get out of there! But as much as there was to dislike about where I grew up, we did have this really nice little travel radius around us that was jam-packed with day trip options. I could drive two hours in pretty much any direction and be in San Francisco or in Sacramento, at the beach or in the snow, hiking in Yosemite National Park or riding roller coasters at Six Flags or wine-tasting in Napa—you name it, I could probably get there quickly. Today I will mostly share pictures from these day trips, but I'll add links for good places to eat or fun things to do in each area, as well.

Things that make me go "hmm."
My favorite pin of the week!
This is not a statement about the ethical issue of cloning one way or the other, but this cloned baby goat is adorable! See more pictures here.
This cute and clever video from the New York Times explores the question of what makes a native species. (Spoiler alert: We European humans aren’t exactly native, if you were wondering.)
I’d say these students could use some “cultural sensitivity” training.
Funny longread: What happens when a 35-year-old man retakes the SAT?
The 20 coolest bookstores in the world. (Oh, and the best ones are on my Pinterest already.)
Having a long day at work and just need to “get outside” for a little while? This awesome trail view website can help.
A drunk klepto with a conscience.
Score one for endangered turtle species!

Things that make me go "hmm."
Happy weekend, everyone! I wanted to start your Saturday off right with this adorable turtle picture. My friend Caroline posted it on my Facebook timeline for my birthday, and I just cannot get enough of it! It looks like it's saying: "GIMME A HUG!"
Now, on to the interesting links I found this week:

The Sunshine Award
Well, my month is starting off with all sorts of good news! My little brother might come visit me for his spring break next weekend, and Kristen at A Lovely Mist nominated me for my first-ever chain blog! (I don't really know what they're called, so I'm calling it a chain blog. Is there an "official" name?) I'm excited to share that Kristen has nominated me for:
The Sunshine Award!

Things that make me go "hmm."
This photo doesn't have anything to do with the links below, but I just think it's gorgeous. Do you agree?
Did anyone else notice the middle finger during the Super Bowl halftime
show? I thought something controversial might have happened when my screen freaked out for a minute, but I wouldn't have even noticed if the network hadn't tried to
censor it (too late).
Have you been craving some iguana meat? Then you're in luck!
How did I not know about this?
Be careful when streaming Netflix away from home, or you could get an $10,600 bill like this family.
This is probably old news, but I've never seen Toddlers in Tiaras, so I don't know. I do know I'll definitely never watch it now!
Did you know Americans eat almost half of the world’s yearly supply of chocolate?
This Victoria's Secret model retired to save her body for her husband.
An interesting controversy over whether home-schooled students should be allowed to participate on public school athletic teams.
And you thought you had a big salt- and pepper-shaker collection.
A New York Times "Modern Love" essay on how a woman became her own in-law. Yup, you heard that right.
And just because I am a complete nerd: The evolution of a turtle's shell.

Happy weekend! I'm skiing up in Angel Fire today. What are you doing? Anyone seeing/saw The Vow?

Newest discovery: Etsy.
As I was perusing my Google Reader yesterday, I found several posts that mentioned "Etsy." I was curious, so I asked a friend what this "Etsy" was, and she showed me immediately. It seems I was one of only a few people on Blogspot who hadn't discovered this adorable shopping site yet, but I almost wish I hadn't. To introduce me to Etsy, my friend suggested I search things like "Mizzou" and "Alpha Delta Pi." Good thing I'm saving up for graduation in December, or I'd be expecting several packages over the next few weeks. On the other hand, it's given me several ideas for decorations I can make myself for my apartment next year.
Here are some of my favorite finds:
Here are some of my favorite finds:
$12.50 from bandaprints - Possible graduation present? Hmm....
$25.00 from LilyGene - When I live in Carolina one day, I will have this on my wall.
$19 from LilSeeds - I love the Harry Potter one!
$15 from daintyhippo - I don't know how I thought to search for "book coasters," but I did,
and this was my favorite result.
$10 from BlackBaroque - I have a strange obsession with turtles, and I also love books.
There are a million other things I could have included, but I'll save those for later. Etsy away!
