Please update me on your progress in a comment on this post. I usually don't write the scoreboard post until Saturday, so as long as you check in by Friday I should have your most up-to-date score on the board. If you forget to check in one week, no worries! Just catch yourself up on the next week's check-in. If you just joined the challenge, welcome! Please feel free to include all books you've read since May 1 that were at least 200 pages long. You can review the full list of rules here. Good luck!
I need to check out what these ladies have been readind. I have been struggling finding something good lately!
ReplyDelete"Who thinks they can finish the challenge by September 1?"
ReplyDeleteNot me, I'm afraid. There are 2 categories that I won't be able to complete because I could not find books for them :-( but I do hope to finish the memoir (currently reading!) and random books before the end of the month.
In the meantime, I'm still stuck at 135.
I'm throwing in the towel. Most of the books I have left are in storage...or I just don't feel like reading them :-(
ReplyDeleteI wrote up a wrap-up post for the three summer challenges I tried, here
So I read the two books I could: a memoir written by a German journalist about his experience in Rome as a foreign correspondent, it was OK (10 points) and Mike Brown's "How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming" which is just brilliant. One day I was in the bookshop looking at "third books from the left on the fourth shelf from the top" and I found this that I had heard good things about, so it counts for 25 points.
ReplyDeleteCurrent total: 170 points (final)
Now for the two categories left, as I said, I am not able to get any book that fits before the end of the summer, so I was thinking... now that it's the last week, would you mind if I "cheated" a little? :-) Not for the points, but just to count the challenge as not "failed"?
-for the book/movie: it's not from the year I was born
-for the WBN: I have none of the books at home, but I do have one that featured as extract in the UK list
What do you say, Megan?
I say any reading is good reading! Read whatever you want to make this challenge feel like a success. :) And I think those categories you came up with are pretty close.
DeleteAaand... finished! I read Antonio Tabucchi's "Pereira Maintains" and watched the movie of the same name (for much that I used to love this book, the movie is better in my opinion) and yesterday I finished Erin Morgenstern's "The Night Circus" (which let me down a bit in the end but is still marvelous!)
DeleteIt was a fun challenge and if you ever host it again I'll be sure to participate! Thank you for the experience!

ReplyDeleteI didn't see a Wrap-up linky. I finished 5/11 tasks, and I had so much fun! I only wish that life stressors didn't get in the way of my reading/blogging time this summer.
ReplyDeleteHere's the link to my Wrap-up:

Thanks so much for hosting, Megan! I hope you'll consider running another challenge in the winter? hint, hint, LOL!
