Is it really already time for the second Semi-Charmed Summer 2012 Book Challenge check-in? Yikes. That means it's time for the very first scoreboard! Things were kind of hectic last week with people leaving their scores on different posts, so hopefully I got everyone. Starting today, please only leave your weekly check-in score in a comment on the corresponding check-in post to avoid confusion. If you think you checked in last week, and I don't have you, please leave a comment for both weeks. If you didn't check in last week or just joined the challenge, feel free to include all books you've read since May 1 on this check-in. Thanks. :)
Now, on to the scoreboard! We currently have two bloggers battling it out for first place:

10 points: Read a memoir or narrative nonfiction book. — The Devil in the White City, Erik Larson (396 pages, not including sources/bibliography)
PREVIOUS POINTS: 20I also went to the library to pick my third book from the left on the fourth shelf from the top, and I got so lucky; it was The Kite Runner! I've been wanting to read this book for forever and just never got around to it. And I swear, it really was the first shelf I went to! I tried an aisle I had never been in before, and bam. I almost feel guilty for getting such a good book, but hey, I didn't make the rules. Oh wait....
TOTAL POINTS: 30
Just in case you didn't believe me: Here's proof! |
P.S. — Don't forget to check out last week's check-in post for some rule clarifications. Good luck!
Megan! I know you saw on fb that I'm doing this so I wanted to let you know my progress! It was a hectic week so I'm still on my first book -- Clear and Present Danger by Tom Clancy -- which was published in the year I was born and made into a movie with Harrison Ford (mmmm). I'm really excited about this challenge! Thanks for organizing!
ReplyDeleteHi chick! I'm doing this. Nothing completed yet, but I'm reading two at the same time...Animal Farm and 50 Shades of Grey. And, now I have to figure out if Animal Farm even qualifies! It is the book I was supposed to read but never did, but don't know about how many pages it has. If I make the print on my Kindle really big, I think it will be 200 pages. hahaha.
ReplyDeleteI read Never Eighteen by Megan Bostic (200 pages) in one day. I had it for a while but forgot about it. I'm happy I got to it- I really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI like this challenge.

Kite Runner is a GREAT book! I'm jealous. I'm not having such luck with my random shelf pic. It's grueling. LOL I took a picture of the shelf too.
ReplyDeleteMy points stay the same because I only finished one half of the antonym pair and I'm not done with the library shelf pic yet.

I didn't finish my book for this past week until last night, so I guess it will be added to the total next Sunday. So close, yet so far! :D
ReplyDeleteHey--If I read the combo book of Animal Farm AND 1984, can I count that? Animal Farm is not 200 pages all by itself (unless you let me count the historical commentary that was included...and which I read!)
ReplyDeleteHey there...here's my reading for this week.

and yes, the kite runner is awesome... but a thousand splendid suns (by the same author) is even better!!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the midst of read a book from a place you've always wanted to visit (A Passage to India) It's hard to describe it but this book is...thick. Not page count wise just all the words, dialogue and what not. It's kind of what I imagine India to be. Thick with sound, smells and life.
ReplyDeleteAnyways! I'm working on it. I also have started Out of Oz which happened to be my random 4th self from the top, 3rd from the left book.

Hey Megan, I read Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay as my book I heard bad things about. (It wasn't that terrible, although I had lowered my expectations.) Also, I read Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks. I think I will use that as half of my antonym pair, but we'll see.
ReplyDelete35 points for me, if I can count half of the antonym pair. :)
DeleteHello. Really wanting to do this, but the month of May has not been kind to me so far...so I wanted to check in, but I have not done any of the reading so far. Hopefully I can start soon. June looks more promising for me to start than May, but we shall see.
