Today is a very special day. Twenty-four years ago on May 25, my wonderful older sister was born! We are less than two years apart, so we have
(almost) always been very close. The best thing about our relationship is that despite our age and the fact that we did so many of the same sports and activities in high school, we were never competitive. She was always very supportive of me and I of her. So here's to you, Abby. I love you! :)
I wish I had some pictures of us in our youth gallivanting about with our adorable blonde bowl cuts and Amish prairie dresses, but alas, the pictures I can glean from Facebook will have to do:
Edited to add: My dad saw this post and e-mailed me some pictures of us in our younger days; check them out here.

She taught me how to read (many years before this picture was taken, obviously) ... |
|
... and ushered in my 21st birthday with multiple drinks a shot. :) |
|
She visited me at Mizzou (where this crazy guy was wearing a Speedo to a 30-degree November evening football game) ... |
|
... and I visited her at Purdue. |
|
... And at Northwestern. |
|
I went to her college graduation (a semester early) ... |
|
... and she went to mine (also a semester early). And we made fun of the sorority arm pop. |
|
We saw The Phantom of the Opera in St. Louis ... |
|
... and Wicked in San Francisco. |
|
And, like any good sister, she loves to see me miserable ... |
|
... especially when she's the one who caused it. :) |
Luckily, I took a picture of a picture last time I was home, so you can see Abby in all her infantile cuteness as my dad carried her around on our farm in Pennsylvania:
Happy birthday, sister! I love and miss you. See you on the Fourth of July. :)
Aw what a sweet post! You can tell how happy you two are in these pictures!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to her :)
I know how awesome it is to have a sibling that close in age to you (my brother and I are 14 months apart). We were basically twins haha and the adventures never seem to end!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to Abby!
What special young ladies. I must say you were both the cutest babies around, and we couldn't get enough of you back then! It's bittersweet to see what wonderful people you have grown up to be! Love you both. Cindy
ReplyDeleteAwwww. How sweet! I wish I had some of those baby/toddler/and cute little girl pictures with me so I could share some for you. Alas, they are in storage somewhere in the U.S. I think I thought I was moving to a convent, since I didn't really bring anything I actually NEEDed. Like family pictures. But, anyway, I love you both! Mom
ReplyDeleteAwww!! Thanks Megan! This was a fun blog post for me to read and I love the pictures! I miss you and can't wait to see you at July 4th festivities! Love you!
