Waiting for Instant.

So, as much as I love The Hunger Games, I waited until Saturday afternoon to see it this past weekend. No, the shows weren't sold out (Santa Fe isn't exactly the target demographic for the franchise), I just really wanted to save $3 by seeing a matinee show.

So on that note, here are five more movies I've been dying to see, but I'm crossing my fingers Netflix will add them to their Instant Queue soon so I don't have to pay a(n extra) dime!

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: I passed up on seeing this with my family over break because I hadn't read the book yet, but now I've read the whole trilogy and I want to experience the (American) film version. The Swedish version is on Netflix Instant, so I'll be watching that soon.

The Artist: I mean, it did win Best Picture. 'Nuff said.

The Vow: I typically prefer Channing Tatum in strictly eye-candy roles (see: Lyle in Coach Carter), but this movie just looks too sweet to pass up. Two bonuses: I love Rachel McAdams, and it's based on a true story that happened in New Mexico!

The Descendants: Guess I have to read the book first, though. (The same could be said for The Vow.)

Undefeated: Yeah, it won Best Documentary, but more importantly, the co-director is a Mizzou alum! Woot! Also, it includes gems like this: "You think football builds character. It does not. Football reveals character."

P.S. — In case you were wondering: Yes, I liked the Hunger Games movie. I thought it stayed surprisingly true to the book, though I didn't understand why they changed the way Katniss got the Mockingjay pin. I just thought out of all the things they could have changed and didn't, that was a weird thing to pick. Also, I wish Peeta were taller. Sigh....

P.P.S. — If you haven't read Catching Fire yet, stop reading! Spoiler alert! The first time Cinna appeared, I started crying. He's like my Sirius! *sniff sniff*

So, have you seen/read any of these? What were your thoughts? Are there any movies released in the last year that I neglected to put on here?

  1. I want to see the Girl with the Dragon tattoo too. I'm kinda glad you didn't see it with your family. LOL it's not something I'd really want to watch with anyone else. lol
OH...and I JUST saw THG!!! Holy cow...I loved it. SO true to the book! And my friend agreed with you. She didn't like how they changed the pin deal. It didn't bother me too much.

  2. I haven't watched the american version, but the Swedish one is awesome - I've heard it's not as violent as the books, but when I watched it about a year ago, I was kind of scared. I was watching them on TV during a Christmas Holiday at me parent's house and they showed them at 10 in the evening, so I was the only one watching the movies. Very good, but scary to sit through them alone. :) But you should definitely watch them. I'm planning on watching The Hunger Games as well, but I want to read the books first. I didn't know there was a book behind The Descendants and The Vow, so I have to read them as well before watching the movie :)

  3. Ahh! I too was super upset about the way she got her pin! I thought it was something that really changes the future of the movies!

  4. The Descendants was great and it took me a full day to recover from The Vow. We pulled the same move re: Hunger Games and saw it last night in a near-empty IMAX. Totally worth the wait! I had the same feeling re: Cinna. I am very much dreading that part of the next movie!

  5. I read in EW that they changed the way Katniss got the pin because they didn't have time to introduce Madge and they didn't want it to be some random girl giving her the pin. It also strengthened the perceived bond between Katniss and Prim.

I have not yet read the later two books, so I don't know how important that is!

  6. I just saw The Descendents on a plane (the only place I ever see movies). For some reason, I was expecting it to be funny (since I never see movie trailers). It...is...not. At all. Funny. Not.

  7. About to start The Hunger Games (yes, I'm one of those people) and movies are expensive, good call on the matinee!
Totally unrelated, but I found nude flats at Target for $14. They are a little pinker than I wanted and hurt a little when I wore them the first time, but they look just like the Steven Madden ones, (which are like $40) but I think they are sold out online.
